The question is rather interesting; Do Indian companies have what it takes to run a BPO? The recent decision of the US-based Lehman Brothers to stop outsourcing their services to Wipro Spectramind doesn't say much about Indian capabilities. The fact sheet is that most biggies in the business like American Express, Standard Chartered, ANZ Grindlays, HSBC, GE, and the World Bank tend to outsource their IT and other technological services to Indian companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant and Satyam but they prefer to do their BPO themselves by setting up their own BPO unit in India. Many third party BPO Company India have either had to sell their BPO unit or let them on lease to these giant corporations. The problem lies in the fact that most third party BPO company India vendors have not moved up the value chain to handle high end process or an entire business process on their own. This is an area where India third party BPO vendors have to seriously consider in the times to come.
